Our History

1923: DP World Vancouver Stevedoring Division founded

DP World Vancouver Stevedoring Division began serving BC’s marine industry in 1923, now the oldest Canadian-owned Stevedoring company.

1946-1963: Terminal Dock Operations

Between 1946 and 1963, Canadian Stevedoring operates four berths at the Terminal Dock under contract to Robin Hood Flour.

1966: Expansion continues

Canadian Stevedoring acquires Louis Wolfe & Sons (Vancouver) in 1966.

1968: Casco Terminals is created

Subsidiary Casco Terminals is established and becomes the terminal operator of Centennial Pier (Centerm), DP World Canada’s current site. Casco builds a first-class reputation for handling containerized cargo, export pulp, and various breakbulk commodities.

1972 – 1979: Local UAE Port Operator

We evolved from serving local trade in Dubai (UAE) starting with the development of Port Rashid in 1972, followed in March 1979, with the opening of Jebel Ali port.

1980: A retirement, a new president

Brian W. Mitchell, John Mitchell’s son, takes over as president.

1991: Dubai Ports Authority is Created

In 1991, the operations of Port Rashid and Jebel Ali port were combined to create the Dubai Ports Authority.

1998: Acquired by BCR Group

In 1998, the BCR Group of Companies purchases Canadian Stevedoring & Casco Terminals.

1999: Regional Port Operator

In 1999, Dubai Ports International FZE was formed to manage and operate container terminals and other facilities outside the UAE.

2003: Acquired by P&O Ports

In February 2003, P&O Ports acquires Canadian Stevedoring and Casco Terminals to form P&O Ports Canada Inc.

2005: Global Port Operator

In 2005, Dubai Ports acquires CSX World Terminals, a leading global container terminal operator.

2006: Acquired by DP World

In March 2006, DP World acquires P&O Ports and becomes one of the top marine terminal operators in the world.

2015: Canadian Expansion

In August 2015, DP World acquires Maher Terminal’s Fairview Container Terminal (Fairview) in Prince Rupert, British Columbia expanding its presence in the Canadian market.
