DP WORLD COMPLETES VANCOUVER’S FIRST CONTAINER VESSEL SHORE POWER CONNECTION
First Shore Power Connection Furthers DP World Vancouver’s Commitment to Being a World Leader in Sustainability
VANCOUVER, BC, 30 NOVEMBER 2018: On Monday October 15, 2018, Vancouver’s first shore power connection with a container vessel was made at DP World with the COSCO Pacific.
Shore power is a technology that allows properly fitted ships to shut down their auxiliary engines and connect to the land-based electrical grid, reducing greenhouse gases and improving air quality.
DP World’s Centerm Shore Power System is the first of its kind in Canada that adheres to international standards for container vessels.
In collaboration with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and Transport Canada, DP World Vancouver is proud to lead the way for Vancouver container terminals to become greener.
The COSCO Pacific was plugged in for 24hrs, resulting in a savings of 12 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which translates to three passenger vehicles being removed from our roads for a year. DP World Vancouver is committed to creating a sustainable future for global trade and looks forward to facilitating more connections to shore power.
